I also had great success running CS3 Adobe on a dual core XP machine.Įither way its going to be another learning curve, just like photoshop and other advanced programs. toss in an i7 quad-core processor and a new GPU and you should be able to make it sing using any of the adobe products.

If you've already got a windows machine, maybe look into to beefing it up.

Don't get me wrong, the Mac line is very slick with great hardware, but I can build it myself for 1/2 the price.

Premiere also has a Final Cut Pro importer so it can import and use final cut pro save files.Īgain, I have always been a big proponent of the PC side so my answer is a tiny bit biased. It also updates in real time if you are running both AE and Premier. it does make render time a bit slower but it makes editing easier because I only have to compile a single video rather than a bunch of clips that have been edited. I can make a linked composition in AE rather than importing and exporting completed video files.

Another small thing but important is that I have complete and seamless transition to and from After Effects. (I get involved in several 24 or 48 hour contests and it makes all the difference). This I find shortens my editing time greatly. I am able to edit video in AP at the same time that I am dumping different video clips from my camera. I prefer CS4's Adobe Premiere over Final Cut Pro for a few simple reasons. I have used both FCP and AP and they both get great results. both programs run the same way and and have internal layouts for toolbars and timelines in that exact same places. Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere CS4 are almost identical. When you get down to the core of it, especially with high end programs and computers such as a nice custom built editing machine from a PC company or a MacBook Pro, it is all the same. I've always been a proponent of the PC side, I started building systems when I was 12. I guess for college its really hip and edgy to have a Macbook. The PC side is still there however in the 20% but people get the "Mac craze". BSU bought into the Mac side along time ago and as such has a very developed Mac editing suite. the school is a 80%-20% split on the editing we do. In school (Ball State University) I am studying telecommunications or basically, film production.

Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing. I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. If you want cheap, realtime editing, frame serving with avisynth is a good option, though transcoding may be a bit more robust in the end. Oddly though, only 20090518 and before seems to work for me, newest ffdshow causes all avisynth compatible encoders and editors (players are fine) to quit. Third party decoders are suggested, or just converting the file if you want to save money (converting using megui that is).ĮDIT: Got AVISYNTH frame serving back up again. I'll try to get it back up and working for a proper test.īasically, yea, you're right that 5dmkii files are pretty much garbage in premiere, though depending on what you shoot, your editing style, and your luck, you may not even notice any issues. Then something got screwed up and premiere crashes every time an AVS file is loaded. With video editors toolkit and avisynth, worked fine for a while. Any external decoder should do better than the internal one, so I did a test using a frame server and ffdshow. I believe that it may have just been a luck of the draw on video content, editing style, and the fact I had it isolated to two cores (checked again, indeed does only utilize two cores at most during decode), so turbo might have kicked in to provide a bit more power than usual. One file skipped every other frame, one skipped a good 80% of the frames, and one played perfectly for 5s (which was about the time slots I used when editing my MKII files). The DPR files involved much, much more panning (mine were mainly stationary on the tripod, bright colored stationary backgrounds), and results where mixed. Let me get this clear, you are able to edit(smooth playback) the native properly on your i7? no proxy, no conversion, right?Įveryone elses, just look at the post #19 for editing canon's videos.ĭeleted my old 5dmkii files a log time ago, so I tried it with DPR's 5d video files. Okay, I thought it was a mistake that you said the conversion is archived, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do so, since you now claim that you can edit the native footage.
